"Just once more," they had said when Ellie's team petitioned for it. She was busy with Palmer, falling in love with science while he fell in love with God, and Kent was left to pick up the pieces. He wanted another damn go at it. The Machine had a pricetag in the billions; it was begging to be used again.

But they wouldn't let Ellie go. They wouldn't let just anyone go. They wanted someone who knew how it worked, who had been there from the beginning, but someone who isn't completely taken in by Ellie's words.

That leads them to a dozen people and they end up with Kent. He's blind, but that's not what decides it. They claim that he wouldn't hallucinate the way Ellie did. That he has a unique perspective.

And, he's already proven himself steady and loyal.

He experiences it all the way that Ellie does, but something goes wrong on the other end. Maybe another terrorist attack. Maybe not. All he knows is that he's in the sphere and then, suddenly, he's floating, unable to find his footing until a great crash and he slams into the bottom of the machine.

He groans, pulling his helmet on with a grunt and a wince.

"Fuck this," he mutters, finding the edge of the sphere with his hands. There was a door there somewhere. He just - has to find it.

Kent shudders, wanting to push back, but gasping aloud instead. They fill him up and he grasps their hand.

“I can imagine your belly being filled with my eggs,” Feldspar huffs, mouth just motoring along. They slide a hand down from Kent’s chest to cup his stomach and the imaginary eggs inside. “You’d like that, wouldn’t you? Having all my little hatchlings.”

They thrust a little faster, sighing as they catch a deeper angle and fully seat themselves inside of him.

He turns his head, pressing his cheek on the stone. "Yeah," he breathes. "Yeah, I fucking would. I want you to fill me up."

“You’d look so good,” they laugh, leaning their face against their neck. “You look so good now. I love when your hair falls in your face like this, you know? You look even more disheveled than normal.”

They continue to babble, train of thought leaving them entirely the closer they get to spending themselves. When they do finally come it’s with their forehead pressed against Kent’s shoulder, a full shudder running through them as they grip him tightly.

Kent is pressed fully against the bed, closing his eyes as he feels them fill him up. He doesn't move, wanting to make this moment last. He wants to make sure that he feels them like this, remembers them like this, because he knows he will miss them later. He puts a hand over theirs.

Feldspar leans the weight of their body against Kent’s and stays there a long moment, at least until their heart rate slows back down again. They nudge their nose against the back of his neck and exhale slowly.

“I’ll miss you.”

"You won't have time to miss me," he assures her. "You will be too busy and then you will hear my voice on the radio. Don't worry."

Kent’s right, of course, they’ll be too busy most of the time they’re up there. But still, there are those moments at the campfire, staring back up at the sky…

They laugh quietly and kiss his neck again. “Sure, sure. And then I’ll be home before you know it, pestering you and riling up the hatchlings.”

He pushes back against them slightly and turns to kiss them. "I love you," he says, cupping their face. "But if you get them to where they don't sleep again for two days, I will murder you."

“If I do I’ll make sure I’m about to go off on a mission,” they grin, leaning forward to kiss the tip of Kent’s pointed nose. “Should we clean up?”

"Mm, if you hand me the soap. I don't know where the fuck I am," he says with a grin, dizzy and delighted.

Feldspar gropes around the shower until they find the soap and place it, along with a clean cloth, into Kent’s hand. “Do you want me to wash your hair?”

They really like washing his hair.

And he obediently turns his back to them, getting out from under the water.

They have to stand on their tiptoes to get the top of Kent’s head, but it’s well worth it to hear him practically purr when they massage his scalp. “Are you thinking of cutting your hair any time soon?”

He hums happily, gripping the stones as he shakes his head. "No," he sighs. "Not until it gets below my shoulders again. I like it long."

“Me too,” Feldspar nods, happy to hear that Kent won’t be changing his hair anytime soon. “How long can it grow anyway?”

He's quiet for a moment, thinking. "Theoretically, it can grow as long as I'm alive, so however long that is. But I don't keep it long. That's too much upkeep."

“Yeah, sounds like it,” they hum, still imagining hair down Kent’s back. “Head back so I can rinse the soap.”

They place their hands to either side of Kent’s head and gently guide their head back underneath the spray.

"Women tend to have longer hair. Ellie did. But she never brushed it. I helped her braid it a few times."

He closes his eyes. "I'm never leaving if you don't stop."

They smirk but relent, pulling their hands back once the soap’s rinsed out. “You mean I’ll never leave if I don’t stop,” they tease. “I’ve got to check on the ship today, but that’s about it.”
