"Just once more," they had said when Ellie's team petitioned for it. She was busy with Palmer, falling in love with science while he fell in love with God, and Kent was left to pick up the pieces. He's quiet for a moment, thinking. "Theoretically, it can grow as long as I'm alive, so however long that is. But I don't keep it long. That's too much upkeep."

“Yeah, sounds like it,” they hum, still imagining hair down Kent’s back. “Head back so I can rinse the soap.”

They place their hands to either side of Kent’s head and gently guide their head back underneath the spray.
