"Yeah, I'll bet." He grins, humming to himself. "Should be almost there, right?" He recalls the trip back and how long it had taken then.

Feldspar wasn’t ever really interested in things like dating or chasing other hatchlings around for smooches - they had their flings, but they were brief, not really serious. If anyone was chasing after them they wouldn’t really know.

“Yep, I’m trying to get us to the other side. Planet’s rotated. I think I see your craft though.”

"From this altitude already?" He smirks. "Must have made a crater."

But he sits back again, content to wait.

“Not many bumps or divots on this planet. There are giant holes in the surface, but you can see straight through. Yeah - there it is. A big line running right up to your ship.”

He's going to ignore that "see straight through" comment because that makes no sense and he'd rather not talk about it.

"You keep calling it a ship instead of what it is - a big ball that was thrown randomly."

“Too many words, ship is quicker.”

They roll the ship slightly to even them out, searching for a stable place to land by Kent’s crash sight. It’s nice to be back; they hadn’t gotten to fully appreciate the surface of the planet when Kent’s ship had slammed into the planet. It’s a pretty color, and shaped a little like the rocks by the geysers of Timber Hearth.

“Gonna put us down for a landing, hold on.”

"Yeah, take your time on that!" he laughs, gripping the seat belt tightly. He has full faith in them, but Kent is also very wary of any landings, considering the bumping he received.

No crashes with cargo this precious. Feldspar forces themselves to slow down and focus, though they feel the ship start to shake as they slow. Nothing out of the ordinary though, nothing that they haven’t experienced before, and soon they’re able to bring the ship down safely onto a flattened rock. Up ahead Hollow’s Lantern circles menacingly, but there doesn’t seem to be any activity on the surface.

“Let’s check the oxygen and see if we can’t get to the ship.”

Kent slides his helmet on his head and locks it, using his fingers to check the oxygen in his tank. "Mine's good. I'm ready when you are," he says, his voice muffled through the speaker on the helmet.

Feldspar does the same, helmet not so much clicking into place as it does just latch and secure. They pull on their oxygen tanks and give a cursory glance at Kent’s, just double-checking Hornfels’ work even though they know they’re meticulous.

“Alright, let’s go jump around on another planet,” they grin, bending down to open the hatch. They jump through first and wait for Kent to follow, just itching to leap around on the surface.

"Yeah?" he laughs. "That sounds fun."

He climbs down, bringing his stick with him and taking a small jump to test the gravity. "Whoa..." Similar in an odd way.

He wasn't really paying attention when he first got here. "Lead the way!"

“Should’ve brought a tether!” Feldspar laughs, closing the hatch and then bouncing up to him. They have Kent grab their arm and bounce them up and over a large rock, cackling quietly at the decrease in gravity.

“I see some ruins up ahead! Can we go explore before we get your stuff?”

"As long as you tell me what we're looking at!" he laughs. "Let's go explore."

He doesn't mind being dragged around and he takes their arm.

“No, you get to just experience everything through my reactions, and that’s it!”

Feldspar grins underneath their helmet and pulls Kent towards the ruins. There’s something like this on Timber Hearth, and Feldspar describes what they see and the parallels to what exists back home - the glowing yellow stripe in a diamond pattern, and the differences in these ruins. There are actual ruins of buildings, and more Nomai circular writing, and what appears to be a tunnel down into the planet.

Feldspar pauses to pick up a few relics to take back with them - a piece of pottery, an odd scroll-like artifact, a few odds and ends that look like Nomai writing utensils and maybe even toys. “Hornfels will love this. Did they tell you about their idea for a museum?”

Kent follows along, marveling at the descriptions. He wishes he could touch and explore and smell and experience. But behind the suit, all he can do is listen.

At least they take some artifacts back. He wants to explore more.

"Yeah," he answers. "They were running some ideas through me. I suggested something about the sun."

“Yeah? I’m sure ol’ Hornfels was thrilled by the idea,” they laugh. “I like it. Between that and the artifacts and your stories, we’ll have a pretty large museum to build out! Keep you both pretty busy while I’m flying around in space.”

"Bringing back things to put in the museums," he points out, nudging them a little with his elbow. "I want to try and help out with the writing. I'm pretty good with languages. And this - keeps me out of trouble," he smiles.

“What kind of trouble could a nerd like you possibly get into?” They nudge him back with a grin that can’t be seen and then hold on a little more tightly to Kent as they use their thrusters to gain a little bit of height.

“Isn’t this amazing? I’m going to describe the view to you - and I need you to suspend your disbelief, okay?”

Because there’s a black hole in the center of the planet, and Feldspar needs Kent to know about it without freaking out. They tell him as they bounce around the surface towards the ship, finding the groove left by its not-so-gentle crash into the planet and following it.

Feldspar has a natural knack for storytelling, but in this instance they try to speak as logically and without hyperbole as much as possible.

"Nerd!" he exclaims, but he chuckles about it instead of protesting.

He holds tight to them, but then he starts talking about black holes and suddenly everything seems to drop out from under him.

"Well. That sure is an interesting way to make a planet. I'm not saying it's impossible, but what I know of black holes is - apparently lacking."

That's the polite way of putting it.

“To be fair, we think it’s a black hole. No one’s observed it up close, just through our telescopes. I don’t know why our solar system is the way it is, but I’m starting to get a stronger sense of appreciation for how weird these outer wilds are.”

They have Kent let go of their elbow and take their hand instead, walking them up and over a few step-like rocks.

“Alright, your ship is up ahead. Like five more paces forward.”

"Very weird," he admits. "But the universe is weird. And strange. And there's so much we don't understand. Even the math doesn't always add up, but..."

He reaches his hands out and takes them around the sphere and inside.

"Ha! Perfect. No one stole it," he laughs, emerging with a briefcase and a backpack.

“Well, this planet is uninhabited, so I’d hope so,” Feldspar says, leaning against the ship as Kent ducks inside. “Unless Esker’s been sneaking off the lunar outpost and rummaging through other people’s crash sites. Rude, honestly.”

They peer over at the items in Kent’s hands. “Watcha got there?”

"Top secret stuff," he chuckles. "Artifacts from Earth. Now where?"

He holds fast to them, but he's willing to keep going.

“Artifacts from Earth?” Feldspar stumbles forward after Kent excitedly. “Let’s get those aboard the ship and then we can do a little more exploring? At least until the oxygen tanks are low.”

He smiles. He knew that would draw their attention. "You take them back and meet me back here?"

It will be a little faster, so he takes off the pack and hands him the briefcase and backpack.
