openmiscEden's Gate has no shortage of controversy. Ever since they began their campaign, they've had dissenters, they've had people fighting back, they've had people investigating. John takes care of everything. Joseph plans, Jacob fights, John talks. He's quick with a smile and a handshake, passing some money along the way to grease the wheels.
But then the wrong person goes missing. John had taken her to Atonement but somewhere between John and Faith, the girl disappeared and reappeared dead across state lines, with the mark of Eden's Gate tattooed on her shoulder. People were bound to come running, especially with the scarring that indicated - well, something not quite right.
A ritual, the papers wrote, but John knows better than that. She reached Atonement and made the sacrifices required - then got scared. He can't be responsible for that.
But that kind of attention can't be ignored and the law comes sniffing at their door again.
"Take care of it," Joseph had told him and John had bowed his head. Ready. Waiting.
John takes a car to the gates of the community, meeting the agent with a friendly smile. "That's far enough, I think. People in here get skittish about newcomers barging in. Wouldn't want there to be an accident."
