Everyone gets to pack one or two personal items and then the race begins. Chert arrives first, piling everyone onto their ship to follow the coordinates that Lapis sent to them. Riebeck is next, doing exactly the same. Eskar timidly brings a ship that Slate immediately takes over, and then it's just Kent and Hal and Gneiss with some of the Hatchlings.

Lapis comes for them, then, ushering them onto the ship and onto the floor. "Just hang on, Dad," they tell him as he holds a few of the younger hatchlings close. They begin to cry and Kent shushes them softly. "It's alright," he assures them, but one of them points at the window.

"Kent. The sun looks sick," they say in a tiny voice and Kent shakes his head. "We're going somewhere safe. Don't worry."

"That's right," Lapis assures them as they race off.
